ECMO: Clinical Applications in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Description
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a potentially life-threatening respiratory condition that is encountered in approximately 10% of ICU admissions. As the severity of ARDS increases, more complex interventions may be required to facilitate gas exchange for critically ill patients. Mechanical ventilation and prone positioning are often employed in the management of patients with severe ARDS, and more evidence is accumulating regarding the role of ECMO in managing these patients. This educational activity has been designed to provide you with an appraisal of the current clinical landscape of ARDS, insights into its pathophysiologic progression, and familiarity with evidence-based approaches to the management of ARDS with a range of interventions, including ECMO. The activity will address multiple aspects of ECMO use in patients with ARDS, including technical specifications, outcomes assessments, and strategies to mitigate potential complications.
